A Mid-October Note from Armin Farshchi

I grew up hearing a simple truth in Farsi: “farsh” means rug. My last name carries that word. Maybe that’s why I’ve always felt at home around hand-knotted pieces—their patience, their quiet strength, the way they soften a room and its people.

Why rugs—why me?
I’m Armin, and I manage the showroom at Amir Rug Gallery. My earliest memories are of watching my father unroll beauty onto bare floors and then watching people relax, smile, and talk a little softer. That stayed with me. I don’t think of rugs as objects; I think of them as atmospheres we can carry from one home to the next.
What do I believe a good rug should do?
A good rug should steady the room and still feel alive. It should earn every day of its life—under conversations, pets, spilled tea, and the sun drifting across the floor. I love wool for its resilience and warmth, and I use bamboo silk or banana silk quietly, as a way to catch light where it matters. Durability first, glow second.
How do I help you choose?
We start with your story. Show me a photo of your space at 8 am and 8 pm. Tell me which chair you always claim and which corner you ignore. Together we’ll choose scale, palette, and fiber that fit your life. Sometimes that’s an heirloom-feeling piece; sometimes it’s a calm modern field with a single line of gleam. Either way, we choose for years—not for a trend cycle.
What’s guiding my eye this season?
Mid-October always feels like a turning of light. I’m drawn to grounded palettes—sand, clay, olive—and one confident accent that repeats quietly in art or a throw. I’m also enjoying the return of round and organic shapes to soften hard architecture. And I’ll always make a case for layering: a steady wool ground and a smaller silk-blend piece to focus the room like a spotlight.
What does success look like to me?
It’s not the sale. It’s when you send a photo months later—morning light on the border, your dog asleep on the corner you swore you’d keep pristine—and you say, “It feels like us.” Rugs are art, yes, but they’re also everyday kindness. If I can help a house feel more forgiving, I’ve done my job.
Where to find me
I’m in the showroom most days, listening before I recommend anything. If you’d like to talk custom wool, view modern designs with bamboo or banana silk accents, or simply test sizes on the floor, come by. Bring room photos, measurements, and the way you want your home to feel. We’ll work from there—patiently, practically, and with respect for your budget.
FAQ
How long is a typical showroom consultation?
About 30–45 minutes for a first visit. We review room photos, talk about lifestyle, narrow scale and fiber, and try options on the floor. If custom is a fit, we sketch palette and motif ideas and map next steps.
Do you work within budget limits?
Always. We start with function and longevity, then choose the strongest option within your range. I’ll tell you when a smaller size or different construction protects both the design and the budget.
Which materials do you recommend most often?
Wool for everyday durability and warmth. Bamboo silk or banana silk for gentle sheen in lower-to-moderate traffic rooms. I prefer wool bases with selective silk highlights so beauty and practicality travel together.
Can you design a custom piece for my layout?
Yes. We tailor size, palette, motif scale—even shape. I’ll provide strike-off samples for color and texture approval before weaving begins so the final rug feels inevitable in your space.
How should I care for a handmade rug?
Use a breathable pad, vacuum with suction only, rotate seasonally, blot spills (don’t rub), and shield silk blends from prolonged direct sun. Schedule professional hand-washing based on use.
